In class we got put into pairs and I was assigned with Sophia Bishop. We began to talk over ideas and a few we came up with were
Ethical Clothing
Ride a Bike
Vegan/Vegetarian
Volunteer Work
Exercising
Voting
Take away Coffee Cups
Owning a Dog or Cat
Renewable Energy
Recycling
Sustainability
Social Media
Water Saving
Sexism
Representation
Disability
Inequality
Reading
These are all interesting Ideas and I think the best way to research them in depth is to each do three and come back again tomorrow to compare ideas and see which one we both like the best.
Sophia Will look at
Ethical Clothing - Recycling/origin etc
Volunteer Work - SPCA type work
Take Away Coffee Cups - For people who know they get a coffee everyday yet still get takeaway coffee cups
I will look at
Owning a Dog or Cat - Positives and Negitaves of owning a domestic pet
Sexism - The #likeagirl campaign
Disability - Judgemental/Comments/Patronising
Research
Sexism - #Likeagirl / #Beaman
This Always #likeagirl campaign is very interesting as it makes you think about what you say and what it refers to without you even realising what you meant by it. This could be interesting to explore as there are many ways you could go about it. For example you could talk about how we say it and don't realise or how its second nature to assume that we can't do something just because we are a girl.
This is a very similar video however it is the male version but it speaks more about depression and suiside which can be caused because of the term 'be a man'. This is very sad and would be an interesting topic to approach although it is quite serious.
This is also a cool video as it shows the difference between both gender and how society is taught to raise their kids and construct their beliefs.
Suiside is a huge thing in society as it one of the main causes of death among teens. This video changes the perception of gender and what it means to be gay and makes out what we typically see as normal as wrong and an absolute monstrosity. This is very sad and I think this would be far to big of an issue to cover in 2 minutes but it is very interesting and the film style is very effective so I will keep this in mind for the future.
Disability - Judgements / comments / patronise
This is an inspiring video it shows the derogatory term of how society uses the 'R Word' It comments on how we don't aim our comments like the term retard at anyone specifically but the meaning behind it is very mean and rude.
This is a funny take on how to talk/treat people with disabilities, it is great and shows exactly how you should act and what to do and not to do around people with a disability.
Owning a Pet - Positives and negatives
A positive way of looking at owning a pet is the pros to basically having a relationship but with an animal except they don't do all the 'annoying' things humans do. The style and factual element to this video is quite cool and refreshing however it isn't really what I would want to watch all the time.
This is a very weird yet funny video as it takes an extreme pet and makes it seem almost viable. I am not sure if we could take it this way as I don't think thats how the brief is intended although it is quite funny and weird.
Showing the true cost of owning a pet in this video it isn't quite relevant to our topic but has potential ideas there.
